Idinye Warns Showunmi Of Repudiating Obaseki, As He Throws Weight Behind Asue’s Guber Ambition

A two time governorship aspirant in Edo State, High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye has admonished a former Atiku Abubakar’s campaign spokesperson, Segun Showunmi and others like him to desist from saying ridiculous and unfounded comments against Governor Gowin Obaseki.

In a statement credited to Idinye on Wednesday during a chat with some newsmen in Lagos, the PDP chieftain described Obaseki as “the pride of Edo people” noting that Showunmi and others who are on the same voyage should leave the party and stop stirring up the hornets nest.

“They ahould swiftly withdraw those unprintable statements said against Governor Obaseki. Enough is enough. Obaseki has fought and won many battles, he should be appreciated, applauded and commended for using his God’s given resources talents to improve lives of many Edo people therefore shouldn’t be vilified by political jobbers and sycophants”. He said.

Continuing, Idinye said, “If Segun Showunmi is tired of PDP he should leave honorably, taking PDP to Court on the basis of purported failure of party NWC to convene NEC meeting isn’t enough for him to sue the party. Such behavior indicates disloyalty and lack of patriotism, it also falls within the context of anti-party activity.

“Meanwhile, PDP cannot continue to entertain any mole within its folk, enough of these shenanigans. I must also place on record that in Edo State, Governor Obaseki remains our illustrious political leader, mentor, and pathfinder who has directly and indirectly touched lives of the vast number of Edo people, Niger Delta and the nation at large.

“A man of peace who loves development and growth of his people. A man who never discriminates. One who has blessed political class across party lines and other thousands of Nigerians expecially the Edo people at home and diaspora.”

Speaking on Governor Godwin Obaseki’s successor in 2024, Idinye said he owes no person any apology or explanation for throwing his weight behind Asue Ighodalo whom he said will attain the PDP guber flag through party’s popular choice.

According to Idinye “We want Asue Ighodalo to succeed our hardworking Governor Obaseki so that there will be continuity in governance for the accentuation of good and robust dividends of democracy. The day I saw him throwing down the gauntlet for the guber race, I became convinced that happy days are here again for the good people of Edo State in terms of socio-economic developments that will cut across-the-board and by the grace of God he will get the PDP ticket and subsequently win in the September gubernatorial poll by God’s grace.

“Ighodalo isn’t a neophyte in politics, the name is also an household name in our state, the family pedigree is worth emulating, no scandals no integrity issues no albatross, these are cutting-edge for him. Similarly, Barrister Asue himself is a sesoned legal luminary with many intimidating credentials, accomplishments and feats. He is well prepared for the job and I love his high spirit of patriotism, his zest, doggedness, and show of commitment to serve; judging from his antecedent in the private and public sector, his wealth of experience, capacity and intellectual competence will make positive impacts in government especially in the coveted office of a State Governor.

“For Ighodalo nothing else matters to him at this time except the peace, growth and development of his people and that is why he chose to consistently support our God sent Governor Obaseki, who has made Edo State proud of good governance, a man who has implemented master plan of workable projects. A man who we all have trusted and are proud of.

“So the myopic views of those who see things differently don’t matter to us and millions of others. God has blessed Obaseki and through him many others are touched. I must also emphasize that PDP is the party to beat as it remains formidable and stronger under one great and virile leadership, both in Edo State and at the national level.” idinye stated.
