Dasuki Nakande, has advised the southeast people of Nigeria to warm their way into the hearts of the other regions of the country in order to stand a chance to produce the next Nigerian president in 2023.
Nakande, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former minister of state for information and communications, stated this in an interview with Nigerian Tribune newspaper.
He said talks about the Igbos being alienated in the scheme of things in the present administration are unfair.
He said during the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Igbos pronounced that he was their own.
“They gave him all kinds of names to prove that they were with him. He was called Azikiwe Ebele Jonathan,” he said.
He also talked about the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), saying it was an Igbo party without national spread.
“The party is more of a regional political party; it does not operate beyond the shores of the southeast. There is no bridge for the party, but it remains in the southeast and it remains there still date,” he said.
He said the southeast has to change its style of politics, adding that they have to play national politics to win the confidence of other parts of the country.
He said the APC has adopted a balanced structure to be all-embracing and inclusive, advising the southeast to take advantage of it.
“Everybody is given a space, whether at a party level or at the level of governance. Virtually all positions are zoned accordingly to make sure that every part of this country is adequately represented, just to create a sense of belonging for all, he said,” he said.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), Dr. Kunle Olajide has warned that the campaign by leading northern politicians and elders for the north to retain power in 2023 is capable of plunging Nigeria into a major crisis.
Olajide said calls for scrapping of zoning by Governor Nasir el-Rufai, Alhaji Bashir Tofa and some groups in the north are unpatriotic, stressing that it is the south’s turn to produce the next president in 2023.
