The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the remittance of ₦6.03 billion to the Nigerian government for the year 2024, demonstrating its continued commitment to accountability and fiscal transparency.

This update was disclosed in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday by its Public Communication Advisor, Dr. Fabian Benjamin. According to the bulletin, the board generated a total income of ₦22.99 billion in 2024, part of which was used to subsidise Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) form fees for candidates.

Key Highlights

  1. Government Remittance:
    • JAMB remitted ₦6,034,605,510.69 as part of its operational surplus.
  2. Subsidised UTME Fees:
    • The board reduced UTME form fees by ₦1,500 per candidate.
    • When combined with this reduction, the effective remittance to the government amounted to ₦9.01 billion.
  3. Revenue Generation:
    • Total income for the year was ₦22,996,653,265.25, generated from UTME registrations and other services.

Long-Term Contributions

Under the leadership of its registrar and chief executive, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, JAMB has contributed over ₦50 billion to Nigeria’s national treasury over the past seven years. This impressive achievement underscores the board’s efficiency and commitment to optimising resources for national development.

Transparency and Impact

Dr. Fabian Benjamin reiterated the importance of transparency in JAMB’s operations. He also highlighted how the subsidy on UTME forms has eased the financial burden on candidates, particularly those from low-income backgrounds while maintaining substantial contributions to the government’s revenue.

Looking Ahead

JAMB’s financial success and transparency serve as a model for other government agencies. As it gears up for the 2025 UTME, the board has already commenced the accreditation of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, ensuring seamless conduct of examinations in the coming year.
