Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has lamented the porosity of the security of our Nigeria-Niger borders.

Masari who lampooned Nigeria’s security personnel at the borders said they cannot  adequately protect the state’s land borders, particularly with the influx of illegal drugs into the state

The governor stated this before the state Commander, Nigeria Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) when he paid him a courtesy visit in Katsina.

Masari said Katsina is among the highest states experiencing the influx of drugs trafficking through the land borders. According to him, the illegal act has further given rise to an influx of terrorism and insecurity in the state.

He pointed out that the wide nature of the land border made it difficult for security operative to adequately monitor the influx of drugs and other contrabands that are detrimental to the security of the country.

“Katsina State is among the states that have the highest in terms of influx of dangerous drugs partly due to the open border with Niger Republic.

”The land borders which cannot be easily monitored are so vast while the Immigration, Customs, the Police and the Army are inadequate to police the borders of Katsina not to talk of Zamfara, Sokoto, Jigawa among others,” he said.

He urged the NDLEA in the state to intensify efforts in fighting drug abuse in the state by sensitizing young people in senior secondary schools and tertiary institutions, adding that it would go a long way to enlightening them to understand the danger of drug addiction.
