Muslim- Muslim Ticket: Religious Sentiment Shouldn’t Bother Nigerians- Opeyemi Bamidele

Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, a senator who represents Ekiti Central in the National Assembly, has urged opponents of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) same-faith ticket to put politics aside and choose a candidate who can turn around the economy.
Micheal Opeyemi Bamidele in an encounter with media over the weekend in Abuja claimed that to address the various issues facing the nation, one needed to have a scientific background.
“In my opinion, what Nigeria needs right now is a president who has a scientific understanding of what needs to be done, who has a scientific understanding of what is wrong, who has a track record of being able to fix broken communities, states, and situations, and who has a scientific understanding of how the economy functions because many of the issues we face can be linked to the economy.
As much as possible, we also need a decision-maker who will have the guts to act without worrying about who gets hurt or trying to defend a certain religion, clan, or group of people.
“We need Nigerians to accept the reality that our search should be for someone who can help fix this economy rather than someone who is coming to protect any particular religion or someone who is a product of a particular religion, but instead someone who decisively understands what it takes to turn a nation like ours so that we don’t get left behind by the rest of the comity of nations,” he said.
However, he praised President Muhammadu Buhari for advancing infrastructure despite limited funding.
He claimed that without the Buhari administration, things would have been worse for Nigerians.
Because of this administration’s level of caution, he claimed, it was far simpler for the nation to emerge from recession at various points.

The legislator claimed that while the government’s efforts to combat corruption and insecurity have not entirely been successful, they nonetheless deserve praise.
“Do Nigerians have a reason to dance today? I’ll answer both no and yes because of significant infrastructure development. However, given the level of instability in the country, how can infrastructure development accomplishments be celebrated?
“Even many of the trains we had acquired, the rail infrastructure we had created, and all of that cannot be used by people when people cannot travel on our highways. So it becomes challenging for you to claim that you have something to celebrate,” he continued.
