Benue State, Nigeria – Major General Moses Gara, Force Commander of the Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), has assured communities affected by violence in Benue State of the military’s unwavering dedication to restoring peace and security. This commitment comes as the region grapples with recent insurgent attacks that have left many residents in distress.
During a recent operational visit to several impacted areas in Yelewata on Saturday, June 14, 2025, General Gara engaged with community leaders and stakeholders to discuss strategies aimed at countering insurgent activities and enhancing security measures.
In a statement from Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, Acting Media Information Officer at HQ JTF OPWS, the Force Commander characterised the recent attacks as “barbaric and unacceptable.” He emphasised the military’s resolve to restore peace in the region, stating, “Today, I stand not just as a Commander, but as a fellow Nigerian who understands your pain and suffering.
The Nigerian security establishment is with you. We are not here to observe; we are here to act. We will pursue the perpetrators of these heinous crimes and ensure they face justice.”
General Gara announced that OPWS has intensified intelligence gathering and implemented robust operational strategies, including the deployment of additional troops to critical locations across Benue State.
He underscored the importance of community collaboration in achieving lasting peace, urging residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information.
Community representative Mr. Iorkyaa Emmanuel expressed confidence in the military’s ability to address the threats posed by assailants and pledged the community’s continued support. He advocated for a sustained security presence in remote areas to deter future attacks.
The military’s renewed commitment to peace and security in Benue State is a welcome development for affected communities. Success will depend on the effective implementation of strategies and the extent of community engagement and support.
