Minimum Wage Saga: Adopt The Principle of Give And Take – NECA Boss

NECA, OSINBAJO

Director General of Nigerian Employers Consultative Association, Mr Timothy Adewale has called for the adoption of give and take on payment of the N30,000 minimum wage.

Adewale is for a mid-point among affected parties as a possible solution to the delay in payment the minimum wage.

Adewale, led members to a meeting with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Principle of give-and-take is important

After Adewale’s  meeting with Osinbajo,, the NECA DG said a possible solution was in “give-and-take” disposition by the parties.

“What we have advised is that in negotiation, the principle of give-and-take is important.

“You can arrive at a win-win situation and that is what we have been urging the two parties to do in the interest of workers,” Adewale said.

Adewale also noted that about 80 per cent of private organisations already paid workers above N30,000.

On issues discussed with Osinbajo, he said too much regulation of the business environment was on the agenda. Government regulatory agencies also worked at cross purposes.

He said the visit was to let the VP know the feelings out there. Since it was not always possible to have access to the VP to table such matters.

NECA calls for clearing desk

The body called for the setting up of a clearing desk at the VP’s office.  The V.P office will serve as a place where some of the concerns could be quickly attended to.

Adewale said, “We do not want to be running to the court to seek redress because of the issue of non-accessibility. Some of the chief executives of the regulatory bodies are difficult to access. We want a situation where there is a clearing desk at the office of the Vice President.”

In his reaction, Osinbajo assured NECA that the Federal Government would continue to support business operations in the country.
