NECO Completes Payment to 72,138 Examiners for 2024 SSCE

By MUHAMMED DAMBABA

Minna, Nigeria – The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the full payment of allowances to all 72,138 examiners who served as ad-hoc staff for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE). The statement, released on Wednesday by NECO’s Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, confirms that all outstanding payments were completed on November 13, 2024.

Clarifying Delay in Examiner Payments

NECO addressed recent speculations suggesting intentional delays, explaining that payment setbacks stemmed from incorrect bank details provided by some examiners. This error temporarily slowed down the payment process, but NECO assured that all issues have since been resolved.

The council began processing examiner payments on October 4, 2024, using a structured bank-by-bank payment approach to avoid further complications. NECO highlighted that this phased method facilitated smoother reconciliation of accounts across the 24 banks handling examiner payments.

False Rumors Dispelled

In response to rumors on social media alleging deliberate withholding of payments, NECO firmly described these claims as “incorrect and false.” The council encouraged examiners to contact NECO directly with any payment concerns rather than turning to the media for clarity.

A Commitment to Timely Compensation

Reaffirming its commitment to supporting examiners and ad-hoc staff, NECO emphasized the vital role of examiners in ensuring successful examination processes and pledged to prioritize prompt payments in future engagements.

“NECO highly values the efforts of its examiners, and we are committed to honoring their contributions with timely remuneration,” the statement concluded.
