Ooni of Ife Congratulates Alaafin-elect, Advocates Unity for Oyo’s Growth

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has congratulated Prince Abimbola Owoade on his appointment as the new Alaafin of Oyo, urging him to unify all contestants and stakeholders for the advancement of the kingdom.

In a statement by Moses Olafare, Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, the Ooni expressed confidence in the Alaafin-elect’s ability to build on the enduring legacies of his predecessors, particularly the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, whose leadership exemplified dedication and excellence.

A Call for Unity and Inclusive Leadership

The Ooni emphasized the importance of collaboration and inclusiveness, advising the Alaafin-elect to unite all factions, regardless of their support during the selection process.

“Now that you have emerged victorious, you have become a father of all, who must rally all other contestants for the growth of Oyo Kingdom. You cannot do it alone. Oyomesi must remain united under your watch, whether those who supported you or those who didn’t. You must be magnanimous in victory,” the Ooni said.

Highlighting the historical ties between Oyo and Ile-Ife, Oba Ogunwusi underscored the Alaafin’s throne as a cornerstone of Yoruba traditional governance and cultural preservation.

“Oyo and Ile-Ife share an unbreakable bond rooted in divine origin and Yoruba cultural preservation. The appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade signifies the continuation of this sacred bond and the unwavering strength of the Yoruba cultural legacy,” the monarch noted.

The Ooni lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for ensuring a peaceful and smooth transition, setting the stage for a new era in Oyo Kingdom.

The Ooni called on all Yoruba people to support the new Alaafin in upholding the kingdom’s glory and fostering unity and development.
