President Tinubu Urges Nigerian Media to Prioritize Integrity and Factual Reporting

At the All Nigerian Editors Conference in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, President Bola Tinubu emphasized the vital role of the media in fostering national development, calling on editors and media managers to maintain professional integrity and a commitment to factual reporting. The conference, themed “Economic Growth and Development Strategies in a Resource-Rich Country,” brought together media stakeholders to discuss both the industry’s challenges and its potential impact on Nigeria’s development.

Call for Responsible Journalism

Represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, President Tinubu highlighted the influence of the media on public perception and its responsibility in shaping national dialogue. “As editors and media managers, your role in national development cannot be overemphasized. You are the custodians of public perception, the gatekeepers of information, and the voice of the people,” he stated, urging media professionals to report truthfully and constructively.

Media’s Role in Economic Development

The President acknowledged the transformative potential of the media in guiding public understanding, especially amid the current economic challenges in Nigeria. By accurately conveying government efforts and policies, the media can help foster a better understanding of the initiatives aimed at overcoming national obstacles.

He urged the media to partner with the government to build a resilient and diversified economy. “With a united effort from government, citizens, and the media, we can build a resilient, diversified economy that offers security, opportunity, and hope for all Nigerians,” Tinubu added.

Vision for Nigeria’s Prosperity

President Tinubu also outlined his administration’s commitment to leveraging Nigeria’s abundant resources for economic growth and shared prosperity. “Nigeria’s vast resources, both human and natural, hold the potential to make our nation one of the world’s most prosperous,” he emphasized. He expressed that Nigerians elected him to lead decisively toward a brighter future, a vision driven by the aspiration for a country that realizes its full potential.
