Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has stated that the union can end its strike in a few days.
On February 14, 2022, the union began the industrial action to push for an improved academic atmosphere and member welfare.
The funding of the Revitalisation of Public Universities, Earned Academic Allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS), and promotion arrears are some of the demands made by professors.
Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke promised that the strike will end soon during a meeting with the House of Representatives’ leadership on Monday in Abuja. So that every Nigerian may be proud that we have universities to be proud of, let’s finish this thing off beautifully by working together and with the members of the House of Representatives.

“We also thank the President for becoming involved in the ASUU strike. And I want to make a plea that going forward, we shouldn’t let the strike drag on. Strikes shouldn’t last longer than two days; if the National Assembly hadn’t intervened the way it did, if we had gone on strike sooner, or if those in charge of labor and education had acted exactly as they did, we wouldn’t have gone more than two or three weeks.
The United States and the United Kingdom are both on strike, but they are prevented from continuing. We hope that by working together over the next few days, we can put an end to this specific controversy in the Nigerian school system, so once again, thank you very much,” Osodeke stated.
