Republican Congressman Andy Ogles has introduced a bill aimed at amending the U.S. Constitution to permit former President Donald Trump to run for a third term in office. This bill comes in response to the challenges currently facing the nation, as Ogles argues that Trump is uniquely positioned to address these issues and restore America’s global standing.
Ogles, in his submission of the resolution on Thursday, emphasized that Trump has proven to be the only figure capable of reversing what he sees as the nation’s decay. He stated, “He must be given the time necessary to accomplish that goal.”
The 22nd Amendment currently prevents any individual from serving more than two terms as president. Ogles’ proposal seeks to overturn this limitation, allowing Trump to run for a third term. He further stated that the amendment is necessary to correct the course set by the Biden administration, which Ogles believes has led to disastrous policies.
Trump has previously dismissed the idea of running for a third term, but he jokingly suggested after winning the 2024 election, “Unless you say, ‘he’s so good, we have to just figure it out.’”
Ogles also praised Trump’s executive actions during his second term, such as policies on border security, energy production, gender identity, and the withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Ratification of this amendment would require significant bipartisan support and approval by three-fourths of U.S. states. Given the current Republican majority in the House of Representatives, the bill would still need broad support to pass.
