Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP has called on all the thirty-six governors in Nigeria to publicly reject the unlawful suspension of Twitter in Nigeria by the government of President Buhari.
SERAP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, legal & advocacy org. devoted to promoting transparency, accountability & respect for socio-economic rights in Nigeria.
SERAP who spoke via its Twitter handle @SERAPNigeria on Wednesday said: ”We call on ALL Nigeria’s governors to publicly reject the unlawful suspension of Twitter in Nigeria by the government of President Buhari.
”It’s time these governors call for the suspension to be rescinded and support the human rights of their own people.”
”It’s essential that Nigeria’s state governors push back against escalating repression and crackdown on human rights in the country. Publicly condemning the unlawful suspension of Twitter should be a priority for the governors.”
According to SERAP, ”Nigerians need more principled leaders to be vocal and unflinching in their condemnation of the suspension of Twitter in Nigeria, and support for the human rights of their own people. #StandUp4HumanRights.
On his part, former Presidential aides to Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri @renoomokri said that President Muhammadu Buhari by his dictatorial leadership has taken the country back to the 1980s
Omokri Tweet: ”Buhari successfully took Nigeria back to the 80s. Banned #Bitcoin, banned Twitter. stopped forex for students overseas (except his own kids). Closed our borders and made us the world headquarters for extreme poverty.”
Recall that the Buhari government had last week Friday banned Twitter operation in Nigeria. The decision had since triggered criticism nationally and internationally.
