No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed dead in the building that collapsed on Sunday at the Obalende area of Lagos Island.
Besides the death of seven-person in the collapsed building, twenty other people have sustained different degrees of injuries said the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The collapsed three-storey building is located at 62 Odo Street and is under construction when it collapsed, according to LASEMA.
It said: “Twenty people have been extricated alive by the LASEMA Response Team and other stakeholders, and…transferred to the hospital by LASEMA paramedics for further medical attention at Lagos Island General Hospital.
“Seven people (six males and one female) were recovered dead,” Nosa Okunbor, LASEMA’s Head of Public Affairs.
Meanwhile, the Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident that seven people have died in the collapsed building,
Oke-Osanyintolu made the confirmation as the LASEMA Response Team tried to clear the debris of the building.

Oke-Osanyintolu said: “Immediately we received a distress call at about 4:30 p.m. on the incident, we activated our emergency response team and all responders headed for the scene.
“Rescue operation is still ongoing while initial findings are as follows: 10 Casualties treated with minor injuries, five severely injured persons exhumed from the remains and transferred to hospital.”
Oke-Osanyintolu said that seven fatalities were discovered, six male and one female.
Meanwhile, the body of another male victim was discovered at about 8:14 p.m., bringing the total number of fatalities to seven.
