ONE million Naira goes to any undergraduate who could solve any societal problems, UNILAG V-C, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, has declared. Three winners of the ‘Professor Ogundipe Innovation Challenge’ (POIC) will be unveiled September 3.

The three finalists with best creative and workable scientific ideas to solve societal problems will receive One million Naira each.
POIC is an initiative of the Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe. He said the initiative is part of his humanitarian activities towards national growth and development.
According to him, the contest is open to all Nigerian university students at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels, nationwide.
Ogundipe who disclosed this Wednesday in Lagos said, the final will hold Tuesday, September 3rd, at Jelili Omotola Halls, UNILAG.
POIC aims to encourage and support scientific creativities
“We instituted the competition to encourage and support scientific creativities and ideas among university students.
“The outcome of such scientific ideas can help solve the country’s problems. It can solve problems in agriculture, oil and gas, information and communication technology, computer and medicine, ” he said.
Ogundipe said it’s time for every Nigerian who desires positive socio-economic change to take a bold step and contribute. Everyone citizen in a way must contribute to tackle Nigerian problems.
Contest will identify young Nigerian scientists
Represented by the Dean, Faculty of Science, UNILAG, Professor Adedotun Adekunle said contest will identify young Nigerians.
“It will give support to Nigerian young entrepreneurs right from schools and make them globally relevant and competitive.”
He urged companies, captains of industry and philanthropists to support the vision for societal advancement.

On his part, the chairperson of POIC committee, Dr Kehinde Kemabonta, said over 500 students applied. The number of contestants were pruned down to 25 and 11. Three will emerge from from the 11 at the final.
