Traffic Management Enhanced Amid Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge Rehabilitation

By DAYO ADESULU

Lagos State is witnessing a strategic effort to manage traffic effectively during the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge, which has partially closed due to crucial reconstruction work. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has deployed personnel to key areas along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles and prevent congestion.

Honourable Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, announced the deployment, emphasizing that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to mitigate traffic disruptions during this significant infrastructural intervention. “Our team at LASTMA has been strategically positioned at critical points to maintain an uninterrupted flow of traffic and avert gridlocks,” Hon. Giwa stated.

Despite the partial closure, traffic beyond the Ifako axis has remained orderly, with vehicles moving efficiently towards the Toll Gate and surrounding routes. This success is attributed to the rapid response and professionalism of LASTMA operatives who are actively managing the situation.

Hon. Giwa expressed gratitude to motorists for their patience and cooperation, urging them to follow traffic signs and directives from officials. He also called on both commercial and private drivers to avoid actions that could hinder the ongoing work or worsen traffic conditions.

The rehabilitation of the Ifako Expansion Joint Bridge is seen as a vital investment in public infrastructure, aimed at enhancing commuter safety and improving the overall integrity of this essential transportation route. The project is expected to last for 101 days, with work on the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Alapere section scheduled from June 28 to August 16, 2025, followed by the Ogudu/Ifako inbound Oworonshoki section, which will run from August 16 to October 5, 2025.

Hon. Giwa reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to delivering necessary infrastructure while minimizing disruptions to daily commutes. He advised road users to explore alternative routes where possible and to stay informed through official traffic advisories.
