WAEC Dismisses Rumors of Cancelled English Examination

WAEC

By DAYO ADESULU

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the cancellation of the English Language examination for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates.
In a statement issued on June 3, 2025, WAEC clarified that a purported press release dated May 30, 2025, which announced the cancellation of the English paper written on May 28, was not authorized by the Council. The management emphasized that the examination remains valid and has not been cancelled.
WAEC attributed the false information to “mischief-makers” intent on causing confusion and panic among students and stakeholders. The Council reassured the public that all official communications are disseminated through verified social media channels and accredited media outlets and that any press releases are issued by the Public Affairs Department.
Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their continued confidence in the organization, which has been conducting examinations for 73 years. The Council reiterated its commitment to providing quality services to students across Nigeria.
For further updates and information, stakeholders are encouraged to follow WAEC’s official channels.
