WAPCo Completes Cleaning, Inspection Of Badagry To Ghana

West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited (WAPCo) said it has completed the cleaning and inspection of its 20-inch offshore pipeline from Badagry to Takoradi in Ghana.

It discloses that the internal inspection of the 569-kilometre offshore pipeline was completed last week.

It becomes clear that WAPCo completed the cleaning and inspection one month ahead of the scheduled completion date of March 20, 2020.

Kwasi Agyeman Prempeh, WAPCo’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, said that a significant amount of data was successfully gathered during the inspection.

He promised to analyse it over the next couple of months to further provide critical insights and assurance of the overall integrity of the pipeline to support WAPCo’s continuous optimal operations.

Prempeh who vowed to resume the transportation of gas to its customers in Benin, Togo and Ghana, disclosed that in Ghana, WAPCo is currently transporting natural gas to its Takoradi Regulating and Metering Station only.

His words: ”Gas transportation to its Tema Regulating and Metering Station will commence after the completion of ongoing expansion under the Takoradi to Tema Interconnection Project (TTIP) expected to be operational in March 2020.

“WAPCo is grateful to its stakeholders for the show of support during the cleaning and inspection exercise that allowed us to safely and efficiently execute the work plan ahead of schedule.

”WAPCo is, particularly grateful and wishes to say thank you to the following who have played significant and commendable roles in ensuring the success of the cleaning exercise.

”Ghana Ministry of Energy, Nigeria Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Benin Ministry of Energy Water and Mines, Togo Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Volta River Authority (VRA), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL).

”Others are Shell Overseas Holding Limited, Societe Togolais de Gaz, Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC), Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNGC), Schlumberger, DSV-Rosen and others.

“With the completion of the pipeline cleaning and inspection, WAPCo is better positioned to offer reliable and improved service to its customers in Ghana, Togo and Benin in their effort to provide a greater access to affordable and reliable power for growth.”
