A woman’s body has been found at a hostel, with claims it was discovered in a suitcase after neighbours reported a foul smell.
Police are investigating after the corpse was reportedly discovered by a painter in Southall, West London, yesterday afternoon, but are not commenting on the suitcase claims.
The unidentified woman’s death is currently being treated as “unexplained”, and this morning the Met Police declined to provide any further details.
No arrests have been made, Scotland Yard said in a brief statement, and the investigation is ongoing.
Forensics officers were last night pictured at the scene and businesses said police had been scouring the area for CCTV.
According to the Daily Mail, a painter at the Pay and Sleep Hostel in The Crescent made the heartbreaking discovery, two weeks after neighbours first reported a “foul-smelling odour”.
An online booking site describes the hostel – which has a one-star rating – as “clean, secure and convenient accommodation”, but neighbours told The Mail a banner adverting it had recently been taken down.
A phone number for the business rang out this morning.
In a statement issued last night, Scotland Yard said: “Officers are investigating following an unexplained death in Southall.
“Police were called at 14:53hrs on Friday, 18 December to an address in The Crescent, Southall UB1, after a person was found deceased.
