The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2026 academic session.
The decision was announced on Monday during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions held in Abuja, where key stakeholders in the education sector gathered to deliberate on admission guidelines for tertiary institutions across the country.
The meeting had in attendance the Minister of Education, , alongside vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, and heads of other tertiary institutions.
With the new benchmark, candidates seeking admission into universities in Nigeria must score at least 150 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) before they can be considered for admission.
JAMB’s annual policy meeting serves as a platform where stakeholders decide the minimum admission requirements for universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and other higher institutions in the country.
The latest development is expected to shape the admission process for thousands of candidates preparing to secure placement into tertiary institutions nationwide.
The board noted that the decision forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system, improve access to higher education, and ensure a more coordinated admission process.
The approved cut-off mark has already sparked reactions among candidates, parents, and education stakeholders, especially as competition for university admission remains intense across the country.
