ASUU Update: FUTA Yet to Obey Strike Order

Twenty-four hours after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared two-weeks warning strike, the Federal University of Technology Akure is yet to begin.

On Tuesday, the Union’s President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi declared one-week warning strike bid to commence immediately in the various public universities campuses.

However, in FUTA, academic activities were ongoing in various class even as the time of filing this report. The population of students and lecturers on did not depict if there is an industrial action at all.

FUTA-ASUU in the past were known for prompt compliance to union’s instruction but the reverse is the case in this regard.

In a swift reaction, Dr Olayinka Awopetu, the Chairman of ASUU, FUTA chapter said it was not a disobedient to the ASUU constituted authority.

Awopetu explained the Union’s constitution states that a strike in any branch of ASUU could only take effect after the branch has conducted its congresses.

He, however, vowed that there would be 100 per cent compliance with the industrial action starting from tomorrow, Wednesday.
