Tinubu Gets Lifetime African Achievement Award In Ghana

Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has been honoured with the Lifetime African Achievement award by the prestigious Millennium Excellence Foundation based in Ghana. The award was presented during the 25th anniversary celebration of the Millennium Excellence Prize in Kumasi, where dignitaries and innovators from across the continent gathered to celebrate excellence in African leadership and service. Tinubu, represented by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, received the award as the Special Guest of Honour at the high-profile event. This recognition highlights the Nigerian presidentโ€™s longstanding contributions to governance, economic reform, and African unity.

Tinubu Commends Organisers, Celebrates African Excellence

In his speech delivered by Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President Tinubu praised the organisers of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, particularly its patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, for their unwavering commitment to honouring African achievers. โ€œI salute the visionaries who have nurtured this institution for a quarter of a century,โ€ Tinubu stated. โ€œThis award reflects values of honour, integrity, service, and excellenceโ€”values that every African leader should embody.โ€ He added that celebrating Africaโ€™s shining lights sends a powerful message to the next generation. According to him, recognising achievers such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Prof. Wole Soyinka, President Cyril Ramaphosa, and Dr Mo Ibrahim sets the tone for a more prosperous and united continent.

Tinubu Calls to Action: Empower the African Youth

While reflecting on the honour, Tinubu used the platform to inspire younger Africans. He called on the youth across the continent to boldly contribute towards shaping Africaโ€™s future. According to him, real transformation lies in investing in critical sectors such as science, technology, education, governance, entrepreneurship, and the arts. He urged young Africans to step forward with courage, vision, and unity to rebuild a peaceful and progressive continent. โ€œAfricaโ€™s development will not be built by passive observers but by bold thinkers and doers,โ€ he declared.

Foundation Encouraged to Keep Inspiring Cross-Border Excellence

Tinubu further encouraged the Millennium Excellence Foundation to continue its legacy of promoting leadership and service. He emphasised the importance of cross-border collaboration, particularly among Africaโ€™s youth. โ€œLet us build a continent that values collaboration over conflict, and unity over division,โ€ he said. โ€œYour mission to inspire excellence and uphold leadership values is more important today than ever before.โ€

Millennium Excellence Award: A Legacy Since 1988

The Millennium Excellence Foundation has been at the forefront of recognising Africaโ€™s best and brightest since its inception in 1988. Its primary mission is to identify, celebrate, and support individuals who distinguish themselves in the pursuit of African development. President Tinubu acknowledged this legacy, noting that the award aligns with Nigeriaโ€™s aspirations and the broader vision of African progress. โ€œThe values celebrated by this award resonate deeply with Nigeriaโ€™s goals and the dreams of many African nations,โ€ Tinubu said. โ€œThe ceremony is not just a recognition of past achievements but a call to pursue even greater impact.โ€

Other Honourees at the 25th Anniversary Event

Several other distinguished Africans also received prestigious honours at the event. Notably, Dr. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of the African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIM), received the Global Intra-African Trade Excellence Award. Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, was honoured with the Lifetime African Achievement Prize for Governance and Public Service. The founder of BUA Group, Alhaji AbdulSamad Rabiu, earned the African Excellence in Business Award, while Mr. Dumo Lulu-Briggs received recognition for African Traditional Leadership and Business Excellence. These awards reflect the Foundationโ€™s commitment to highlighting success in various fields, from trade and governance to culture and entrepreneurship.

Africaโ€™s Path Forward: Leadership Rooted in Service

As President Tinubu receives the Lifetime African Achievement award, his message echoes a broader narrative: Africa must rise on the shoulders of visionary leaders, united youths, and pan-African cooperation. Through initiatives like the Millennium Excellence Prize, the continent continues to shine a light on those charting the course for a brighter future.
