Police Officer, Others Alleged For Fraud

A self-described police officer and 42 other people have been taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal Command, for alleged online fraud activities.

This is stated in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Ibadan and signed by Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the commission.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that despite the commission’s repeated cautions against corrupt behavior, the arrest was yet another significant one.

One of the 43 suspects, he alleged, was a self-described police officer who claimed to work in Ede, Osun State.

According to Uwujaren, the suspects were apprehended on Friday in the Ogun State cities of Ijebu-Ode and Awa-Ijebu after actionable intelligence on their alleged fraudulent activities.

Eleven exotic cars, multiple laptops, numerous iPhones, and Apple wristwatches were among the valuables recovered from the suspects, according to Uwujaren.

Other goods include pricey video games and golden teeth that belonged to one of the accused and are worth millions of Naira.

As soon as the investigations were finished, he said, the suspects will be brought before the court.
