President Tinubu also directed that the entire length of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road project be fitted with solar-powered street lights. Umahi disclosed that the 700-kilometre project comprises 350 kilometres each way, stretching from Abuja through Niger State to Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano. So far, Julius Berger has completed 480 kilometres of the Kano section. The minister revealed that Sections I and III, totaling 118 kilometres, have already been awarded at a cost of N252 billion, with 30 percent of the funds paid upfront to the contractor. Altogether, the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road project is expected to cost nearly one trillion naira, making it one of the largest infrastructure investments in the history of Nigeriaโs road sector.
