Aviation Sector Gets Boost: ICAN Launches Specialized Chapter to Drive Financial Excellence

LAGOS, NIGERIA – The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) is set to launch its highly anticipated Aviation Chapter, a move aimed at bolstering financial excellence, strategic systems integration, and ethical leadership within Nigeria’s burgeoning aviation sector. The launch event, themed “Flightpath to Financial Excellence: Integrating Strategy, Systems, and Standards,” is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos.

The event will convene key stakeholders from the aviation industry, finance professionals, regulatory agencies, and government representatives. This specialized chapter will serve as a dedicated forum for ICAN members with expertise and interest in the aviation sector. The primary goal is to foster knowledge sharing, professional development, and advocacy on critical financial and economic issues that affect airlines, airports, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders in the Nigerian aviation landscape.

According to John Italume, the point of contact for the launch event, and a representative of the ICAN Aviation Chapter, “The establishment of the ICAN Aviation Chapter is a crucial step in recognizing the unique financial complexities and growth potential of Nigeria’s aviation sector.” He further explained that the chapter aims to bring together members with specialized knowledge, in order to significantly contribute to the sector’s sustainable development and adherence to the highest standards of financial management and corporate governance.

The chapter will focus on several key objectives:

  • Professional Excellence: Organizing specialized workshops, seminars, and training programs tailored to the aviation industry’s specific financial needs.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Facilitating the exchange of best practices, insights, and research findings among members working in the aviation sector.
  • Strategic Collaboration:Engaging with policymakers and regulatory bodies on financial and economic issues affecting the aviation industry.

The interim leadership of the ICAN Aviation Chapter is composed of experienced chartered accountants with extensive backgrounds in aviation finance, airport management, and strategic leadership. The Chapter will outline its program of activities for the coming year during the launch event.
