Babcock University President Charges Faculty on Excellence Ahead of New Academic Session

Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State – October 12, 2026 — The President and Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Professor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole, has charged faculty members to uphold excellence and commitment as the institution prepares for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Professor Ojewole gave the charge during an Academic Council Workshop organized by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness ahead of the new session.

Addressing faculty, the Vice-Chancellor urged staff to pursue excellence in their respective roles, noting that the greatness of the university will not be defined by slogans or rankings alone, but by ordinary people consistently giving their best.

“Do excellent work. Do your best,” he said.

According to him, his vision is for Babcock to be a university that is respected for scholarship, trusted for character, known for innovation, recognized for the quality of its graduates, and above all, faithful to God.

“Babcock should be a university where faith and scholarship are not strangers, where excellence and humanity live together, where innovation does not disconnect from values, and where global relevance does not mean loss of identity,” Professor Ojewole stated.

Highlighting his administration’s GRACE Agenda — a strategic framework aimed at enhancing global visibility and relevance — the President encouraged faculty to embrace innovation and calculated risk-taking, stressing that mistakes are an integral part of progress.

“There can be no innovation without mistakes. There is no wrong question, no wrong idea, and no dumb individual here,” he noted.

Professor Ojewole further disclosed plans to increase budgetary allocation for research and publications, and to overhaul the University’s website by the end of 2026 to make it more interactive and regularly updated.

The workshop provided a platform for faculty members to deliberate on shared accountability in the implementation of academic policies and best practices.

The charge comes as Babcock University continues to strengthen its global profile, recently ranked 8th nationally and 3rd among private universities in Nigeria in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026 — a testament to its standing as a faith-based institution where scholarship and values converge for global relevance without loss of identity.
