YABATECH Launches Monthly Staff Fitness Exercise to Promote Health, Productivity

-Rector, Management Pledge Sustained Commitment to Staff Wellbeing

Yaba, Lagos — Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) has launched a monthly staff fitness exercise aimed at promoting healthy living, enhancing staff wellbeing, and boosting productivity across the institution.

The initiative, introduced under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Adedotun Abdul, will hold on the first Wednesday of every month as part of efforts to institutionalize regular physical activity and foster a healthier workforce.

Speaking at the inaugural edition held on Wednesday, Dr. Abdul expressed satisfaction that the programme had finally commenced following earlier administrative preparations. He noted that prioritizing staff health had become imperative for overall workplace effectiveness.

According to him, the fitness exercise serves as a reminder that productivity extends beyond lectures, paperwork and routine administrative duties, emphasizing the need for staff to maintain a healthy balance between work and personal wellbeing.

While the college-organized exercise will be held monthly, the Rector encouraged staff to cultivate a personal culture of regular exercise.

He commended staff who participated in the maiden edition and expressed optimism that the programme would be sustained, urging them to remain physically active and to look forward to subsequent editions. He also called on participants to share feedback to help improve the programme and encourage wider participation across departments.

In his opening remarks, the Director of Sports, Mr. Peter Oyebanji, said the exercise was designed to ensure staff are in the right frame of mind for optimal performance.

“This is not just about marking scripts, lecturing or writing memos. It’s about our overall health and readiness to work. We are privileged to have the Rector with us today to lead this,” he said.

Also speaking, the College Medical Director, Dr. Nubi, highlighted the long-term health benefits of regular exercise, noting that research has shown that consistent daily physical activity can add several years to life expectancy.

“Even with conditions such as hypertension, cancer and prostate-related ailments, regular exercise has been proven to have positive effects on the body. It is something we must all embrace,” he advised.

On behalf of the Governing Council and Management, the Registrar, Mrs. Henrietta Adebola Badejo, appreciated staff who turned out for the inaugural exercise and reaffirmed Management’s commitment to sustaining the initiative.

She noted that staff health and wellbeing remain a top priority for the institution, commended the organisers, and wished staff a productive workday.
