BREAKING: 5,000 INEC Card Readers Gut Fire In Ondo

No fewer than 5,000 Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) card readers have gutted by fire in their Akure office in Ondo State. The is coming barely a few weeks away to the gubernatorial election in the state.

The mysterious fire was said to have targeted the section where the card readers were kept pending the time of the election.

The fire surge which affected the ICT unit of the INEC, according to an insider began at about 8:13 pm.

Sad enough, the firefighters who supposed to put if off were helpless, claiming not to have water.

Feelers attributed the cause to electrical surge as the card readers were always charged inside the place.

INEC Commissioner in charge of Information and Voters Education, Festus Okoye, who spoke at the scene confirmed that the fire affected the ICT section of the office.

”Over 5,100 card readers were burnt, including the 1,000 card readers delivered to Ondo INEC from Osun State,” Okoye said.
