Coronavirus: Nigeria Has 23 Suspected Cases In 5 States – NCDC

Nigeria now has twenty-three cases of suspected coronavirus in Lagos, Ogun, FCT, Edo and Kano states, says the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu who disclosed this on Sunday in Abuja said besides the index case recorded in Lagos, there is no new confirmed case of the virus in the country.

According to Ihekweazu, a total of 219 contacts of the index case were identified from hospital, workplace and hotel.

Reacting to the confirmed cases of the virus patience at the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) in Yaba, Lagos, Ihekweazu said they are clinically stable.

Ihekweazu said: ”A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre (EOC) activated at level three has continued to coordinate the national response activities led by NCDC.

”The field investigations were ongoing and all contacts are undergoing daily symptom monitoring.

“Testing of samples collected through the national influenza sentinel surveillance system as part of enhanced surveillance is ongoing,” he said.

“A draft tool for tracking and monitoring HCW infection has been developed.”
