The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the official deadlines for the conclusion of the 2025 admission exercise across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, warning that some institutions are yet to submit a single admission recommendation despite earlier directives.
According to a statement issued by the Registrar’s Office at JAMB Headquarters, Bwari, Abuja, the timelines were approved at the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions held on July 18, 2025, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa (CON).
The meeting, attended by heads of tertiary institutions and key education stakeholders, agreed on a structured admission calendar to ensure uniformity, transparency, and stability in Nigeria’s higher education system.
Admission Deadlines by Category
JAMB stated that the 2025 admission process would officially close on the following dates:
Public Universities: October 31, 2025
Private Universities: November 30, 2025
Other Tertiary Institutions (Polytechnics, Colleges of Education, etc.): December 31, 2025
The Board explained that these timelines were designed to promote efficient academic scheduling and provide all tiers of tertiary institutions adequate time to complete their respective admissions.
Universities Directed to Submit Admission Lists Promptly
The statement emphasized that all public universities were expected to submit their lists of qualified candidates to JAMB by September 30, 2025, while private universities had until October 31, 2025, to do the same.
However, the Board expressed concern that despite the ample time and clear instructions, records on its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) indicated that some institutions have yet to submit a single admission recommendation.
“This development is worrisome and contrary to the resolutions reached at the Policy Meeting,” the statement read.
JAMB Reiterates Commitment to Orderly Admission Calendar
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and due process in the conduct of all admission exercises, adding that the CAPS platform remains the only recognized and automated system for processing admissions in Nigeria.
By adhering to the new timelines, JAMB noted, institutions will help sustain a predictable and unified academic calendar nationwide.
