The President emphasized the importance of reflecting on the journey since independence, recognizing the achievements made while also acknowledging the mistakes of the past. “We must not allow our mistakes to follow us into the future,” he stated, urging citizens to remain committed to building a better nation for current and future generations.
## Security Gains and Economic Reforms
Highlighting the strides made in security, President Tinubu announced significant progress in combating terrorism and banditry, noting the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders. On the economic front, the administration has attracted over $30 billion in foreign direct investment within the last year. The President reiterated commitment to fiscal reforms, including a new Economic Stabilisation Bill designed to stimulate investment and ease the burden on businesses and workers.
## Focus on Youth Empowerment and National Cohesion
A significant highlight of the address was the announcement of a National Youth Conference aimed at addressing the challenges facing Nigeria’s youth, who make up over 60% of the population. The conference will focus on key issues such as education, employment, and social justice, ensuring that young voices are integral to the nation-building process.
In addition to the conference, several youth-centric programs are set to launch, including a Technical Talents initiative and the Renewed Hope Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme, aimed at creating 2.5 million jobs annually.
