Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has received a positive exit report from a 21-member resource verification team of the National Universities Commission (NUC) following its assessment of 16 new academic programmes proposed by the institution.
The development marks a significant step in Babcock University’s plans to expand its academic offerings across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Babcock Reaffirms Commitment to Academic Excellence
Receiving the verification report, the President/Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, Professor Afolarin Olutunde Ojewole, expressed satisfaction with the outcome and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.

He also assured the verification team that the university would provide the resources required to support the successful implementation of the proposed programmes.
According to him, Babcock expects the programmes to achieve their objectives within two years under the institution’s GRACE mantra.
“In two years, guided by our GRACE mantra, these programmes will achieve their objectives and the teams will be proud of the progress made,” Ojewole stated.
16 New Programmes Cover Emerging Fields
The proposed programmes cut across a wide range of disciplines, from emerging technologies and business to health, science and education.
The undergraduate programmes include Advertising, Broadcasting, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Biotechnology, Business Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Food Science and Technology, Industrial Mathematics, Security and Investment Management, Computer Science Education, and Dental Surgery.
At the postgraduate level, the proposed programmes include Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Mathematics, Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
The proposed expansion reflects the university’s focus on combining established academic disciplines with fields that are increasingly important to the digital economy and national development.
NUC Team Praises Babcock’s Facilities

The Dental Surgery team also praised the institution’s workforce, describing it as highly experienced and resourceful. The team further highlighted the Provost’s commitment and energy in driving the programme development process.
Why the Development Matters
The positive assessment could strengthen Babcock University’s academic expansion plans, particularly as universities increasingly respond to demand for programmes linked to technology, healthcare, data, artificial intelligence and other emerging areas.
The proposed programmes also position the institution to combine traditional academic offerings with globally relevant disciplines. Babcock said the initiative is aimed at equipping students with skills capable of contributing to Nigeria’s development and improving the country’s global competitiveness.
