Jail Attacks: Why We’ll Capture Every Prison Breaker- Aregbesola

Rauf Aregbesola, minister of interior, promised in Abuja on Sunday that escaped prisoners from various detention facilities would be apprehended again and taken back into custody.
They are like a mouse stuck in a trap; they can only flee and cannot hide. We will catch them, Aregbesola vowed.
During a Q&A session for NAN Forum, the News Agency of Nigeria’s premier interview program, he provided the guarantee.
They will open bank accounts, have phone numbers, and are only lying to themselves; they will be discovered.
“They resemble an imprisoned mouse. Where does a mouse that is imprisoned go? You are only amusing yourself if you let go of the rope that was used to trap the mouse; you would later retrieve the rope and take the mouse home.
As far as I am concerned, they are trapped, he insisted.
Rauf Aregbesola, acknowledged that the recapture of the fugitives was taking a while, but he promised that no matter how long it took, they would eventually be apprehended again.
Government is the hardest institution to insult and it has a long, unquenchable memory, so it is not giving up.
“I have read about suspects or criminals who fled from the law and perished as fugitives, only to be identified after the DNA of their bones was examined and analyzed.
Government is a patient institution; we did what needed to be done; no one is being housed in our detention center without having all of their biometrics registered.
“All inmates in our custodial facilities are registered in our database or have their biometrics stored in the database, whether they are prisoners or defendants awaiting trial.

That is the confidence I want to give Nigerians: “To the extent that is done, unless that person does not exist as a human being, it is a question of time before we get them.
The minister emphasized that in order to ensure the capture of the wanted individuals, the Ministry of Interior was working with pertinent security organizations and other ministries.
He stated, “We have forwarded the fugitives’ biometric information to every pertinent organization that could assist us in using the data to arrest them and we are not relenting.”
Numerous prisoners, including those who were released following the attack on the Medium Security Correctional Centre, Kuje in the FCT on July 5, are on the run.
Security personnel started a manhunt for the escapees the day after the attack, and 443 were eventually apprehended.
The Nigerian Correctional Service reports that as of August 14, 2022, more than 500 escapees were still at large.
