Suspected thugs on Saturday attacked Edo State Governor, Oba of Lagos and the Chancellor of the Edo University Iyahmo.
The thugs attacked Mr Godwin Obaseki, Oba Rilwan Akiolu and Dr Aderemi Makanjuola at the house of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Governor Obaseki and the other guests had attended the maiden convocation ceremony of the Edo University, Iyahmo, Edo State.
Mr Crusoe Osagie, the SA to Obaseki on Media and Communication Strategy, said the personalities went for a launch at Oshiomhole’s house.
He said the trio honoured the invitation after the ceremony at the Edo University.
Osagie said: “Oshiomhole”s house is just opposite the university. ”Governor Obaseki, the Oba of Lagos and other guests had gone to Oshiomhole’s house for lunch when thugs attacked them.
”Oshiomhole’s nephews said Remeo led the thugs that attacked Obaseki, Akiolu and Dr Aderemi Makanjuola.
”It took the intervention of the governor’s security to prevent a blood bath. The thugs smashed several vehicles at the venue.
In his reaction, Governor Obaseki said the attack was shameful. ”It is a shame for such an attack to take place at APC National Chairman’s house.
Obaseki said that the resort to violence was inappropriate and an unfortunate incident.
“It is very unfortunate that we can’t feel safe in the house of our National Chairman.
“I am not sure that if I visit the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) they will attack me like this.
“It is unfortunate that things have degenerated to this extent but we will continue to pursue peace. Because we cannot afford to lose the gains of the last three years, we’ll thereforel continue to pursue peace,” Obaseki said.
