Tinubu Picks 40-Year-Old Tech Professor To Lead JAMB After Oloyede’s Exit

By DAYO ADESULU

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the next Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, signaling a new phase of technology-driven reforms for the nation’s examination body.

The appointment, announced on Thursday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, will see Aina take over from Professor Is-haq Oloyede whose tenure officially ends on July 31, 2026.

At 40 years old in July, Aina becomes one of the youngest individuals to head the examination agency responsible for managing admissions into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

According to the Presidency, the new registrar is widely known for his background in computer engineering, digital systems, and examination infrastructure. Officials described him as a specialist in institutional reforms with years of experience in public-sector technology management.

Aina studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent before obtaining a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security as well as a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He also attended the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.

The Presidency noted that Aina’s relationship with JAMB started during his National Youth Service, where he gained early exposure to the country’s admission and examination processes. That experience, according to the statement, later shaped his contributions to digital examination reforms and systems optimisation in Nigeria.

Before his appointment, Aina served as a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University.

He is also affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The Presidency said President Tinubu expects the incoming registrar to build on the reforms introduced under Oloyede and further modernise the operations of JAMB.

Officials believe the appointment reflects the administration’s increasing focus on digital transformation within Nigeria’s education sector, especially in examination management and admission processing.
