Washington, D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could take control of the Gaza Strip and play a leading role in its reconstruction. His remarks came during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday, following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
🔹 U.S. ‘Ownership’ of Gaza?
Trump declared that Washington would “own” Gaza in a “long-term” capacity to clear unexploded bombs and weapons and promised to develop the area, with Saudi Arabia playing a key role in the process.
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it,” Trump said, describing Gaza as a “demolition site.”
🔹 Permanent Resettlement for Gaza’s Palestinians?
Trump further suggested that Palestinians should be permanently resettled elsewhere, saying:
“It would be my hope that we could do something really nice, really good, where they wouldn’t want to return… Why would they want to return? The place has been hell.”
This resettlement proposal echoes previous ideas floated by Trump’s administration to relocate displaced Palestinians to other Middle Eastern nations, a plan that has been rejected by Egypt and Jordan.
🔹 Netanyahu Praises Trump, Talks Israel-Saudi Peace
Netanyahu hailed Trump as “Israel’s greatest friend” and expressed optimism about a peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
“I think peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia is not only feasible, I think it’s going to happen,” Netanyahu stated.
🔹 Ceasefire Talks in Doha
As part of the ongoing ceasefire negotiations, Netanyahu announced that an Israeli delegation would travel to Doha, Qatar, later this week to discuss the next phase of the truce with Hamas, mediated by the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar.
The second phase of the agreement aims to:
✅ Secure the release of remaining Israeli hostages
✅ Lay groundwork for a long-term resolution to the conflict
🔹 What’s Next?
With Trump’s controversial proposal and ongoing ceasefire talks, the future of Gaza, its residents, and regional stability remains uncertain.
