UniAbuja Honours Ethiopia’s Prime Minister With Dr of Political Science

University of Abuja, UniAbuja has honoured the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed with a Doctorate Degree.

Ahmed would be awarded an honourary Dr of Political Science tomorrow, Saturday during the convocation of 10,331 students of the institution in Abuja.

Recently, this Africa’s youngest head of state and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed was named the winner of the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize.

Ahmed exemplified this political qualities when he knocked off 300 other nominees to win the global prize for his committed efforts for peace that led to making peace between his country and their neighbour Eritrea after several years of conflict that led to heavy casualties on both sides.

Announcing the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize  in the Norwegian capital, Oslo, the five-member Nobel committee which awards the prize  showered praises on the  Ethiopian leader for “his decisive initiative to resolve the border conflict with neighbouring Eritrea.”

The head of the Nobel Committee, Berit Reiss- Anderson said it was hoped that the prize would strengthen Prime Minister Ahmed “in his important work for peace and reconciliation.”

The Prime Minister was also recognized for his efforts towards restoring diplomatic relations between Djibouti and Eritrea “after many years of hostility” as well as his efforts and mediatory role in Kenya and Somalia dispute.

Ethiopia and Eritrea restored relations in July 2018 after more than two decades of conflicts that left devastating effects on both countries. Between 1998 and 2000, both countries were locked in a debilitating border war that practically brought both economies to their knees.

The Nobel Prize is worth 9 million Swedish Kronor, equivalent of $912, 000 or 831,000 Euro.
