UNIOSUN Inaugurates Staff Volunteers Scholarship Scheme For Indigent Students

BY DAYO ADESULU

In line with the University’s mission of providing high-quality teaching and learning for all students, the Osun State University has inaugurated Staff Volunteers Scholarship Scheme for indigent students.

The scholarship scheme which was inaugurated on 11 February 2020 is designed for indigent but diligent students of Osun State University.

UNIOSUN Staff who have volunteered to assist the indigent but brilliant students of the school will be donating a certain percentage of their salaries to pay for the school fees of some selected indigent students.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Labode Popoola who is equally one of the volunteers advised the team to identify other spirited members of staff who may like to be involved in the gesture as it is believed that the scheme would help in redirecting the destiny of lives of indigent students that may have gone off the track.

“I commend the act of charity of this group. The scheme is the first of its kind in this institution. You can’t do this and not get rewarded in any form. Your efforts in moulding the lives of brilliant but indigent students of the institution are applauded.

”You’re helping and redirecting the destiny of lives that may have gone off the track. The reward may not be direct to you; it may be to your children or grandchildren. God has a way of compensating people, Professor Popoola added.”

The initiator of the scheme who is also the Director of Research and Linkages, Professor Amos Popoola said the group is formed to identify and solve finance-related problems being experienced by indigent but diligent students of the institution.

“Any interested bonafide indigent students from 200 level and above with the minimum cumulative grade point of 2.5 in Osun State University should visit his/her faculty officer or college secretary to indicate interest in the scholarship scheme, Professor Amos Popoola added.”
