UTME Result Glitch 2025: Affected Candidates Get Solutions

UTME result glitch 2025

The UTME Result Glitch 2025 that compromised the scores of over 379,000 candidates has been addressed by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede. The Registrar ordered the immediate officially review process of the affected candidates

This move comes as JAMB reviews 2025 UTME results to ensure transparency, fairness, and accuracy in the national examination system.

UTME Result Glitch 2025: Thousands of Candidates Affected

At a press briefing held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, in Bwari, Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, publicly admitted that the board encountered a technical failure during the UTME result compilation process. He stated that the glitch stemmed from a server patching issue between April 25 and April 28, particularly affecting candidates in Lagos State and across the South-East geopolitical zone.

According to him, 206,610 candidates in Lagos and 173,387 in the South-East had their results distorted due to the glitch. The error occurred during an attempt to rectify a software bug, which led to improper patching of some exam delivery servers.

“We implemented multiple tests and simulations ahead of the exams. Unfortunately, a failure occurred due to technical errors during the deployment of result patches,” the registrar said.

Why JAMB Reviews 2025 UTME Results Early

Under normal circumstances, JAMB conducts post-exam reviews in June. However, the overwhelming volume of public complaints this year prompted an urgent review of the UTME results. From May 9 to May 12, both social media and traditional media were flooded with concerns over abnormally low UTME scores.

As part of the corrective effort, JAMB invited external experts to perform an independent audit. Those involved included:

  • Prof. Boniface Nworgu, a renowned psychometrician

  • Prof. Adenike Osofisan, member of the Computer Professionals Council of Nigeria

  • Prof. Kabiru Isyaku, President of the Nigerian Academy of Education

  • Delegates from the National Parent-Teacher Association

  • Representatives from the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)

These stakeholders conducted a thorough investigation and confirmed the exact scope and origin of the UTME result glitch 2025. Fortunately, results from April 29 onward were not affected, thanks to corrective software updates applied at midnight on April 28.

What Caused the UTME Result Glitch 2025?

JAMB’s technological infrastructure relies on two major systems: KAD and LAG. While KAD handles operations in the North, the LAG system manages examinations in Southern Nigeria, including Lagos and the South-East.

Prof. Oloyede explained that the LAG system malfunctioned when a configuration update involving option randomization failed. Although dummy simulations were conducted, some servers were not properly updated due to errors by the technical service providers.

“This was not a widespread failure, but it had a deep impact in specific centres. We are already working to reprocess all affected results,” he stated.

UTME Performance Remains Strong Despite Technical Hiccup

In addressing public concerns, JAMB reaffirmed that the performance of UTME candidates remains robust. The highest score recorded in 2025 was 374, the best result in over a decade. This performance demonstrates that despite technical issues, student quality and exam integrity remain intact.

Top UTME Scores (2013–2025)

Year Candidate Score
2025 Undisclosed 374
2024 Olowu Joseph Oluwasijibomi 367
2023 Umeh Kamsiyochukwu Nkechinyere 360
2022 Adebayo Eyimofe Oluwatofunmi 362
2021 Monwuba Chibuzo Chibuikem 358
2020 Maduafokwa Egoagwuagwu Agnes 365

These results highlight a consistent upward trend in performance over the years, refuting claims that academic standards have dropped.

Remedial Measures as JAMB Reviews 2025 UTME Results

JAMB has already begun revalidating and reprocessing the results of all affected candidates. The board has assured the public that every error will be corrected in line with fairness and accuracy.

Affected candidates have been advised to remain calm. They are encouraged to monitor official JAMB platforms for real-time updates on the progress of the result corrections.

“We are committed to correcting these errors and will continue to uphold the integrity of our examinations,” Prof. Oloyede assured.

JAMB Pledges Transparency and Accountability

As JAMB reviews 2025 UTME results, the board is taking steps to restore public confidence. The Registrar thanked those who voiced their concerns, stressing that public engagement plays a vital role in improving the system.

“We appreciate all Nigerians for being vocal. Silence would have meant indifference. Constructive criticism is what keeps us striving for better service delivery,” Oloyede stated.

The board reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and technological innovation in the administration of national examinations.

Conclusion: JAMB Reviews 2025 UTME Results to Ensure Fairness

Although the UTME result glitch 2025 sparked intense debate and concern, JAMB’s proactive response, engagement with experts, and early review demonstrate its commitment to fairness and accuracy. As the board continues the reprocessing of affected results, candidates and parents can be reassured that corrective actions are being taken swiftly.
