In a heartfelt plea, a mother is urging the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to release her son’s WAEC certificate, fearing that the delay is pushing him into depression. The situation has gained attention following media coverage that highlights the emotional distress experienced by students waiting for their examination results.
In response to the claims made in national dailies, WAEC has issued a statement clarifying its stance on the withholding of examination results. The Council emphasised that it does not arbitrarily withhold results but does so only in cases where there are allegations of examination malpractice or irregularities. Such actions are taken pending thorough investigations, ensuring due process is followed.
WAEC explained that candidates whose results are being withheld receive notifications regarding the allegations against them and are guided on how to respond through the WAEC Notice of Examinations Malpractice portal.
This information is consistently shared in press releases at the time of result announcements and on the Council’s social media channels. The organisation also ensures that candidates are briefed on these procedures well before exams take place.
A spokesperson for WAEC, Moyosola Adesina, Ag. Head of Public Affairs emphasised the Council’s commitment to maintaining integrity in the examination process, stating, “The West African Examinations Council is a law-abiding organisation that follows due process in all its activities.”
Furthermore, WAEC reminded the public that all reported cases of examination malpractice are investigated according to established rules and regulations.
As a respected examining body, WAEC asserts its dedication to enhancing educational quality in Nigeria. The Council remains focused on supporting the academic goals of its stakeholders while striving to improve assessment processes.
For more information and updates, students and parents are encouraged to follow WAEC on its official social media platforms and refer to its announcements regarding examination conduct and result releases.
By prioritising transparency and adherence to due process, WAEC aims to alleviate the concerns of students and parents while ensuring a fair examination system for all.
