World Teachers’ Day: Adeola Pledges Better Welfare, Training Centres for Ogun Teachers

By DAYO ADESULU

ABEOKUTA, Ogun State — The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has felicitated with teachers across the state on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, pledging improved welfare, better working conditions and expanded opportunities for professional development.

Adeola, in a message commemorating the annual celebration on Monday, October 5, 2026, commended Ogun State teachers for their dedication to educating and shaping the younger generation despite the challenges associated with the teaching profession.

He described teachers as critical drivers of human capital development and stressed the need for sustained investment in their welfare, professional growth and working environment.

According to him, improving the teaching profession would not only boost teachers’ morale but also contribute to better learning outcomes and a stronger education system across Ogun State.

Adeola Promises Improved Teachers’ Welfare

The APC governorship candidate said his administration, if elected, would prioritise the welfare of teachers through measures aimed at improving their remuneration and working conditions.

He pledged to review teachers’ salaries, provide better working environments and ensure timely payment of their entitlements.

“Teachers play a critical role in shaping the future of our children and, by extension, the future of Ogun State. Their commitment, patience, and dedication deserve recognition and support,” Adeola said.

He added that his administration would place teachers’ welfare at the centre of its education policy, arguing that motivated teachers were essential to achieving meaningful improvements in the state’s education sector.

“As a government, we will improve teacher welfare by reviewing salaries, providing better working conditions, and ensuring timely payment,” he said.

Three Teacher Training Centres Planned

Adeola also reiterated his commitment to strengthening teachers’ professional capacity through the establishment of teacher training centres across Ogun State’s three senatorial districts.

The centres, according to him, would provide opportunities for teachers to update their knowledge, acquire new skills and keep pace with evolving teaching methods and educational requirements.

He said continuous professional development was necessary to equip teachers to respond effectively to changes in education and the growing needs of students.

The initiative forms part of his manifesto for the state and is expected to provide a structured platform for ongoing teacher development across Ogun’s three senatorial districts.

‘Teachers Deserve Recognition and Support’

Adeola said the significance of World Teachers’ Day goes beyond celebrating teachers, stressing the need for concrete policies that recognise their contribution to society.

He noted that teachers influence the lives of young people daily and play a major role in preparing students for higher education, employment and responsible citizenship.

“On this World Teachers’ Day, I celebrate our teachers and reaffirm my commitment to promoting better welfare, improved working conditions, and opportunities for professional growth,” he said.

He called on stakeholders in the education sector to continue supporting teachers and creating an environment where they could perform their duties effectively.

Adeola maintained that a stronger education system would ultimately contribute to the development of a more skilled and productive population in Ogun State.

Why This Matters

Teachers remain at the heart of every education system. Better remuneration, improved working conditions and continuous professional training can help strengthen teacher motivation and improve classroom outcomes.

For Ogun State, the proposed teacher training centres could also provide a more coordinated approach to professional development if implemented with adequate funding, qualified trainers and clear performance targets.

As the state prepares for the 2027 governorship election, education and teacher welfare are likely to remain important issues for voters, educators and other stakeholders.
