Bauchi Trailer-Bus Collision: 11 Dead, 9 Injured

A trailer crashed with an 18-seater bus on Saturday in Hawan Jaki village in Alkaleri along the Bauchi-Gombe road, resulting in 11 fatalities and nine other injuries of varying degrees.

Yusuf Abdullahi, the Bauchi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident to reporters on Sunday in the state.

Yusuf Abdullahi said two commercial vehicles were involved in the collision: a Hiace bus with the registration number BA114-A28 owned by Yankari Express of the Bauchi State Government and a DAF trailer with the registration number JMU169XA owned by the Dangote Group of Companies.

Nine of the victims were confirmed dead at the Alkaleri General Hospital, according to Abdullahi, who also stated that “two additional injured victims later died.” Abdullahi explained that the FRSC rescue squad arrived on the scene quickly after receiving the report and evacuated them there.

The commander urged drivers and other road users to abide by the law and refrain from speeding, especially during the winter months when the number of vehicles using the highways increases significantly.
