Buhari Accuses Lawmaker of Sponsoring IPOB, Igboho

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has on 61 Anniversary Day speech accused a member of the National Assembly of sponsoring IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Igboho.

The president said this in his broadcast to the nation on October 1, 2021.

He said the 61st Independence Anniversary should not only serve as a reminder of the day the British handed over the reins of power to Nigerians, but also unify them from all ethnic groups, religions and regions.

He said all hands were on deck for the 1st of October 1960 to happen as East, West, North came together to celebrate freedom.

On the arrests of Kanu and Igboho, the president said ongoing investigations being conducted revealed certain high-profile financiers behind these individuals.

“We are vigorously pursuing these financiers including one identified as a serving member of the national assembly.”

“This is a clear example of how people abandon their national leadership positions for their selfish gains. Instead of preaching unity, they are funding and misleading our youth to conduct criminal acts that sometimes lead to unfortunate and unnecessary loss of lives and property.

“As the so-called leaders run abroad to hide, our innocent youths are misled and left in the streets to fight for their senseless and destructive causes.”
