Ifeanyi Ubah, a senatorial candidate for Anambra South, sobbed during the burial of Mr. Ikechukwu Obum, one of his personal assistants, on Saturday in Mbaukwu, Awka South, Anambra State.
Ubah was constantly wiping away tears throughout the funeral, with the help of Senator Uche Ekwunife and other prominent state lawmakers.
The senator for Anambra Central District, Ekwunife, spoke during the burial and called the attack tragic.
“I don’t have the words to convey how I feel about what happened, and I also don’t have the words to comfort Senator Ifeanyi Ubah after two of his trusted staff members were killed, but God says that in everything we should offer him thanks.
“Nobody knows what happened or how it occurred, but this is not the Anambra of our dream or the Anambra we are familiar with, where individuals emerge and take lives that they do not possess and are unable to give.
“I praise God for sparing the life of Ifeanyi Ubah; otherwise, God would have allowed it. However, in my opinion, it was merely an attempt at assassination.

“You can tell that it was just an attempt on his life if you look at how badly the car he was riding in was damaged. However, God preserved him due to who he is, which is why I came to comfort him and show my sympathy during this difficult time. I also implore him to be patient and to take heart.
Since I know the Obum family well and they are decent people, and only God knows how He took his life, she said, “God knows and determines the fate of men, but most importantly I want to console the family.”
The attack on the Ubah convoy last month had been described in reports. In the incident, his assistants and orderlies were killed.
