JAMB reschedules UTME 2025 for affected candidates has officially commenced the rescheduling of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 affected UTME candidates, following technical glitches and disruptions recorded during the main exam.
The JAMB reschedules UTME 2025 process kicked off on Thursday morning, just hours after the board’s Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced the development at a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.
During the briefing, Prof. Oloyede admitted to systemic issues that marred the exam experience for thousands of candidates across several zones, particularly in the South East and Lagos regions.
Over 200,000 UTME Candidates Affected in Lagos and South East Zones
According to the JAMB registrar, the errors in the 2025 UTME impacted a total of 206,610 candidates across 65 centres in Lagos. Additionally, 173,387 candidates in the Owerri examination zone, comprising all five states in the South East, were also affected. These disruptions resulted in the invalidation or delay of many candidates’ results.

“I apologise, I take full responsibility,” Prof. Oloyede said, expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to the affected candidates and their families.
He further stated that text messages would begin to go out to affected UTME candidates starting Thursday, providing them with new examination schedules and venue details.
JAMB Reschedules UTME 2025 to Begin May 17 in Designated Centres
As part of the ongoing rescheduling exercise, candidates have started receiving reprinted exam slips containing updated dates and venue information. Our correspondent verified one such slip, which showed that a candidate in Lagos was rescheduled to sit for the UTME on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 12 noon in a centre located in the Igando area of Alimosho Local Government.
This swift response underscores JAMB’s efforts to rectify the earlier lapses and ensure no eligible candidate is disenfranchised.
Reactions Trail JAMB Reschedules UTME 2025 Announcement
The announcement of the JAMB reschedules UTME 2025 initiative has sparked mixed reactions from stakeholders and candidates alike. Many affected UTME candidates have welcomed the opportunity to retake the exam, while others have expressed concerns about the short notice and logistical challenges.
In a related development, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened legal action against JAMB over what it described as “systemic failures” that contributed to mass failure and confusion during the 2025 UTME.
Meanwhile, concerned parents and educational advocates have called for better infrastructural support and contingency plans in future examinations, especially for computer-based tests.
JAMB Vows to Improve Technical Infrastructure in Future UTME Exercises
In his Wednesday address, Prof. Oloyede acknowledged that despite thorough preparation, some unforeseen challenges affected the conduct of the 2025 UTME. He emphasized that the board would invest more in technical infrastructure, especially in exam centres with a history of performance issues.
“We will enhance monitoring, training, and vetting of our technical partners and centres. What happened this year will help us build a more robust system,” he assured.
He reiterated that JAMB is committed to transparency, fairness, and giving every candidate a level playing field in the admission process.
What Affected UTME Candidates Should Do Next
All affected UTME candidates are advised to:
- Check their phones regularly for rescheduling notifications via SMS.
- Log in to the JAMB portal to print the updated examination slip.
- Arrive at the designated centre early, with all required materials including JAMB registration slip, identification, and approved items.
- Avoid unauthorized CBT centres, and report any suspicious messages or unofficial rescheduling communications.
JAMB has warned against falling for scams, urging candidates to rely solely on information received through verified official channels.

The decision to reschedule the UTME 2025 for 379,997 affected UTME candidates marks a crucial step in maintaining the credibility of Nigeria’s most competitive university entrance exam. While the errors have drawn criticism, JAMB’s swift response and public accountability provide hope for improved outcomes in future editions.
