Lagos State Government Dislodges Road-Side Traders, Arrests 10 Motorists in Oyingbo

Oyingbo traders on road setbacks and walkways on Thursday were dislodged and 10 motorists arrested by Lagos State Government on the Oyingbo area of the city for obstructing the flow of traffic.

Officials of the Ministry of Transportation, led by the Commissioner of Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, went to the area following the expiration of the ultimatum issued to traders and motorists causing gridlock in the area.

Oladeinde said everything impeding traffic in Oyingbo, as well as Yaba, Iddo, Ketu, Ajah and Iyana Ipaja, would be removed.

He said with the executive order signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on May 10, 2019, the state had declared zero tolerance for any impediment to the flow of traffic in the state.

“We have served the people in Oyingbo and other areas abatement notices and they have expired. We are coming for full enforcement of the law. It is not good for people of 21st century to be disobeying traffic law. We have made arrests and we will make more arrests,” he said.

Oladeinde lamented that several traders in Oyingbo had refused to go into the market to carry out their trading despite enough space to accommodate them.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, said motorists caught picking passengers on the road, thus, impeding flow of traffic would also be arrested.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, noted that there had been a level of compliance but government wanted full compliance.
