Northern Governors Shutdown Schools Over Coronavirus

State Governors in the Northwest of Nigeria have on Wednesday announced the closure of all schools in the region for 30 days.

The decision of the executive governors of the states was made public in a communiqué, read to the journalists on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Forum and Katsina Governor, Aminu Masari, while addressing journalists explained that the decision to close the schools became necessary to prevent the spread of Coronavirus across the northwest.

Governor Masari said the closure will take effect from Monday 23rd of March 2020.

He said the governors will meet with examination boards to discuss the development

Recall that Katsina recorded its first suspected case of coronavirus on Wednesday.

Governors in the North-West had converged in Kaduna, alongside heads of security agencies to review security strategies and fight against banditry.

Tackling the insecurity in the region was the thrust of discussion at the governors meeting when the need to curb the spread of coronavirus was mentioned.
