Footage shows a group of police officers in Ekpoma, Edo State, running over and dragging a middle-aged man in handcuffs down the road on Friday while in their official vehicle.
Eyewitnesses claimed that the incident raised tension in the neighbourhood because they perceived the policeman’s behaviour as the height of irresponsibility and wickedness.
The wrongdoing officers are, however, scheduled to report to Force Headquarters on Monday, according to a statement by Force spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi.
The unpleasant incident on June 29, 2023, in which a police team ran a vehicle over a citizen, was denounced by the acting IGP, according to the statement.
The erring officers, who have been held in custody in Edo State, have been ordered by the IGP to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday for further punishment.
He advised the locals to maintain their composure, reminding them that the Force would not accept its members misbehaving.
The public, in particular the residents of Ekpoma, were urged to maintain their composure since the NPF’s current leadership would not tolerate such an illegal and unprofessional act, he stated.
