Oyo Police Detain 80-Year-Old, Others For Armed Robbery.

The accused assassins of Ogunleye Daniel, an assistant superintendent of police, and Gabriel Adeniyi, an 80-year-old spiritual healer, were both taken into custody by Oyo State police on Friday.

According to reports, the suspects shot and killed Daniel, a resident of the Ori-Agogo community in Odo-Ona Kekere in the state’s Oluyole Local Government, after robbing him and other family members.

Before he was killed, Daniel was working at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku in the state capital of Ibadan.

Oyetumbi Ademola, Michael, Gabriel, and Kafilat Tiamiyu were the suspects.

They were displayed at the Command Headquarters in Ibadan by the state police public relations officer, Adewale Osifeso, who claimed that their arrest followed a rigorous intelligence-driven investigation.

A group of five alleged armed robbers entered the area on April 29, 2023, around 1:00 a.m., and took numerous residents’ goods. The robbery operation resulted in the death of ASP Daniel.

Police Officer, Others Alleged For Fraud

“Their gang leader, Fatai Fasasi, 30, also known as Ogun, who is accused of shooting and killing the deceased officer, was neutralized at an encounter with Police operatives during their trial. Three suspects, including their spiritual healer, one Gabriel Adeniyi, ‘m’ 80 years old, Oyetumbi Ademola’ 25 years old, and Michael Adeniyi’ 26 years old, were also arrested.

The assailants’ getaway car, a 1999 Hyundai Elantra, two Samsung phones that belonged to their victims, and a barrel that was cut to size locally have all been found so far.

“In the same vein, during the process of voluntarily confessing to the crimes committed, they further revealed one Kafilat Tiamiyu ‘f’ a.k.a. Iya Alaye as a criminal receiver who receives jewelry (gold) proceeds from them, based on this, the said Kafilat Tiamiyu was tracked and arrested at Oranyan area of Ibadan,” he said.
