World Teachers’ Day: MSSN Tasks Governments On Good Wages

Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) has called on government at all levels to improve the welfare packages of teachers.
It said a good welfare package for teachers would secure a solid future for the country’s education.
The President of MSSN, Lagos State Area Unit, Dr Saheed Ashafa, made the call to commemorate 2019 World Teachers Day.

Teachers are Second to None in Society

“Importance of teachers in any society that desire all-round growth is second to none. MSSN, therefore, ask for significantly higher pay for teachers at all levels of the sector.
“Many teachers are suffering in this country. Teachers cannot afford transportation from their meagre salaries.
”Governments are owing teachers several unpaid salaries. Many of such teachers lack transport fare to school to teach the pupils,” Ashafa added.
The three-tier government must stop all forms of hardship on teachers in the country must without delay.

Government must Address  Inhuman Treatment Meted on Teachers

He said: ” Government must address the inhuman treatment meted on teachers for travelling far distance to schools.
So, the Government must address the absence of modern teaching tools and inadequate refresher courses for teachers.”
Government must pay attention to the country’s educational sector.
Ashafa also implored the teachers to eschew all forms of professional misconduct to restore the integrity of the teaching profession.
He said, “It should be clearly stated that the rate of examination malpractice at present is highly embarrassing.

Teachers Conniving with Students to Cheat must Stop

The poisonous role of many teachers in the spate of malpractice at its present height is unpardonable.
We must do everything to ensure that sanity return to the sector.”
Ashafa bemoaned a situation where teachers engage in serial abdication of duty, perpetual lateness to class.
He also frowned against illicit relationship with students and other forms of misconduct. Ashafa describes it as unethical and unacceptable
”Teachers must remember that the only enduring wealth they possess is personal integrity.  Therefore, teachers must display a high sense of dignity at all time.”
Every October 5 is the World Teachers’ Day.  Stakeholders in the education sector hold World Teachers’ Day yearly to honour teachers and recognize their contributions
